We are looking for a cook to join our team from April to September 2019. The Doune Dining Room has a reputation for providing great food and we have worked with several graduates from Ballymaloe. You will work with another cook and, depending on your interests and experience there will be an opportunity to contribute towards running the kitchen. The job is equally suited to a less experienced cook or a more experienced cook looking for variety and a different kind of challenge.

Doune is small hotel and restaurant located on the Western tip of the Knoydart peninsula in NW Scotland. It is in a VERY remote location, five miles from the nearest centre of habitation. There is no road; access is by boat or on foot.  As such it is vital that you are happy to live and work in a remote setting.

We will also be recruiting a boat skipper and two housekeepers/waiters/waitresses to work with us. As such, depending on your personal circumstances this job may be of interest to a couple as there is the prospect of work for your partner.

At Doune, we have accommodation for up to twenty guests and a licensed dining room. Our guests include walking parties, families and people with interest in wildlife, photography and the remote beauty of Knoydart, and visitors from passing yachts.  We provide breakfast, a three-course dinner, and home-made pack lunches.  On occasions, we cater for wedding parties and other special events.

We offer a varied menu, and everything is freshly prepared daily (with options for special diets and vegetarians). Starters include a variety of soups, homemade patés, mousses, salads and fresh crab from the bay.  Main courses include seafood salads, scallops, local lamb and venison, a variety of casseroles, or an amazing Doune curry.  For dessert, we offer fresh fruit pies, homemade ice-creams and various cold sweets.  We use home-grown fruit and vegetables whenever possible and freshly baked bread.

The job will run from the beginning of April until the 10 September. Terms and conditions are: 48 hours a week plus two week’s paid holiday. Accommodation is provided free of charge in a shared two bedroom flat.
