JOB ADVERTISEMENT COOK/KITCHEN MANAGER
The Curiosities Emporium (formerly Diegos) on Main Street, Castletownbere, Co. Cork is looking for a competent Cook/Kitchen Manager to join our new team and Cafe/Shop.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for food and thrives in a busy kitchen. Experience in working in a busy kitchen would be highly beneficial.


Duties include:
● Working under the supervision of the cafe manager to prepare food on the day and in advance,following standardised recipes to deliver the best possible quality of food and service to customers.
● Setting up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
● Preparing ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables ,cuttingmeatetc.)
● Cooking, plating and presentation of food to the customers
● Ensuring Food is served in a timely manner

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and rotating stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) method.
  • Minimizing waste, as sustainability is a core part of our identity.
  • Adhering to food safety requirements.
  • Keeping the kitchen organized and running efficiently.
  • Performing daily and weekly kitchen cleaning tasks.
  • Demonstrating willingness and enthusiasm in using the Chef Network Workplace Charter as the foundation for a healthy kitchen work culture.
  • Maintaining food safety certification and manual handling certification.

Skills Needed/Desired:

  • Proven experience as a cook or in a kitchen environment is essential.
  • Proficiency in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware, while adhering to safety measures.
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods, such as grilling, baking, and boiling.
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures.
  • HACCP knowledge is beneficial, though training will be provided.
  • Essential ability to work effectively in a team.


To excel in this role, a candidate should possess strong cooking skills, attention to detail, the ability to follow recipes, and knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. They should also be able to work well under pressure and as part of a team. In terms of qualifications, previous experience in a kitchen or culinary arts education.
